Navajo Weavings:
Tradition and Trade
Challenges lead to creative designs. The gallery for this exhibit has two entrances on opposite sides and the video could only be displayed in the middle of room and not in a case for the protection of the objects. In the beginning of the project the suggestion was to have two screens tilted back-to-back. I wanted to design a video that did not obstruct the views of the gallery from either entrance with upright video screens so I developed a video that could be played on a screen that was parallel to floor like a table. Guests can view the video from either side of the table.
Pushing the boundaries and trying new techniques helped bring this video together. Images were edited in Photoshop to create torn edges and shadows to add depth, small pop-up vectors were traced over object images in Illustrator and then animated in Animate, and the train smoke was created in After Effects. The train movement was completed in After Effects with a plugin that simulates the physics of gravity.
