Creative Digital Content
About Cari
As a lifelong creative and a professional designer, I love using digital media to connect people to ideas. I specialize in creating digital content for museum exhibitions and live theatre.
As an audiovisual designer I can engineer a system and create sound and video designs that support a live production. As an exhibition multimedia designer, I make experiences that support the museum stories.
I believe boundaries and challenges lead to greater creativity in projects. I can work independently and effectively manage deadlines, or collaboratively with other members of team. I do not shy away from criticism, which allows new viewpoints to be heard and reflected in my work.
How It Started
I have been interested in technology my whole life, whether it was learning how to use my father’s office computer or picking up the latest video game. In college I began working as a student audiovisual technician at the University of Mary Washington Dodd Auditorium. I enjoyed the work so much that I attended University of North Carolina School of the Arts’ graduate program in theatrical sound design.
After graduating with my M.F.A. I began working at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation. I started part time as a sound technician and also audiovisual technician in the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg.
How It’s Going
After becoming the full-time audiovisual technician for the Hennage Auditorium at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg I jumped in and started helping with technology in exhibitions. I taught myself to edit video and the basics of motion graphics. I am now the Senior Audiovisual Technician for the museum. I also have served on the board for a local theatre company, worked freelance for symphony concerts, and am the audiovisual technician for a local church.
Accessibility
I believe access is the first step to welcoming diverse audiences. I am continuously working to expand my connections with people through diversity, equity and inclusion. This year I am completing diversity course at a local city department. I also be attending the Leadership Exchange in Arts and Disabilities conference this year.
At the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg I proposed, purchased, and installed an assistive listening system that is ADA compliant. My audio and visual designs for the auditorium almost always include text or captions and voiceovers to help guests enjoy programs in their entirety. My goal is to complete an accessibility audit of the auditorium and the work I do in exhibits to find areas where we can be more accessible. I would also like to one day add a volunteer audio description program.
